Frozen Water

At the centre of my photographic practice I am looking for the unknown in the familiar. I enjoy the concentration it takes to get the right picture and I get excited about the smallest details, as the tiniest shift in focus can change the experience of the photo dramatically. The micro environments found in frozen water are an experiment in visual poetry and form finding (random appearances of lines and bubbles) as well as a challenge of the perceptions and expectations we have of water. As no cube ever freezes the same, I wanted to record the random beauty of the design elements before they melted away without leaving a trace. When I work I am investigating the fleeting, delicate, transitional spaces where images become a mixture of reality and fantasy to convey a sense of stillness and isolation. In the end, I am attentive only to my own curiosity.
